Lin-Manuel Miranda has chosen his mother as his date for the Oscars

Lin-Manuel Miranda is on track to becoming the youngest ever person to scoop the EGOT – an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award – after being nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for his hit track ‘How Far I’ll Go’ in Disney’s Moana.

And whilst he admits that he is pretty blown away by the nomination, he’s already announced who he’ll be taking as his date to the prestigious ceremony – his mum, Luz Towns-Miranda.

How bloomin’ adorable – I wonder what his wife, Vanessa Nadal, makes of it?

Speaking to USA Today, the extraordinary Hamilton creator shared: “We gotta get my mum a dress. I’ve promised her she was coming with me to the Oscars since I was 10.

“Obviously the first priority, is getting my mum looking nice. I can wear any old penguin suit.”

Lin promised his mum he'd take her to the Oscars when he was 10.

And speaking about the fact he might soon be able to add a record-breaking Oscar to his Emmy, two Grammys and three Tonys, Lin continued: “I just feel very, very, very, very lucky. This is honestly a dream come true.”

Lin is currently filming ‘Mary Poppins’ in London and he admitted that the time zones between the UK and Los Angeles left him confused about when the nomination announcement will take place.

Revealing that he was “eating tandoori chicken” when he got the exciting phone call, his Mary Poppins co-star, Emily Blunt, quickly cornered him for a congratulatory hug before they resumed filming for the day.

We have just one month to go until Oscar night, where we will see if Lin is lucky enough to take home the gold.
