Planning for New Year’s Eve is always going to be a stressful time – the pressure for the final night of the year to be the greatest is always pretty intense and more often than not you’re left desperately trying to figure out which party will be the best one and which friends you most want to see the new year in with.
But if you’re famous it’s an entirely different situation; the stars don’t have to choose between a night in TigerTiger or a night round Kelly’s gaff, they have the whole world at their feet and more often than not their New Year’s parties are a suitably glitzy affair.
So here are some of the celebrity hotspots for that midnight countdown:
Simon Cowell makes no secret of his love of Barbados and traditionally spends both Christmas and New Year in the sunny Caribbean alongside his partner, Lauren Silverman, and son, Eric, as well as his famous pals.
He has previously been joined by the likes of David Walliams as well as ex-girlfriend Sinitta, former X Factor judge Tulisa and X Factor contestants, Union J.
Si’s favourite place to stay is Sandy Lane, a swanky five-star beach resort along with his pal, and Topshop boss, Sir Phillip Green.
Sinitta previously said of their swanky NYE celebrations: “It’s completely debauched. We all go to Sandy Lane as guests of Sir Philip and his family.
“It starts with all the men looking suave in suits, while all the ladies wear elegant dresses – but by the end of the night we all end up in the pool with our diamonds and champagne glasses and often not much else.”
If you don’t fancy celeb-spotting in Barbados then how about in St. Barths?
The tiny island is a favourite of stars such as Heidi Klum, Lana Del Rey and Salma Hayak with the celebs hiring private villas and seeing in the New Year at Maya’s restaurant.
A waterfront table at the restaurant can be worth billions thanks to the exclusive customers that it attracts, with the small size of the island ensuring that it is difficult to get to thus never being taken over by tourists.
For the Hollywood stars who don’t fancy jetting out of the country for New Year’s, Hotel Shangri-La in Santa Monica is a popular choice, with the swanky hotel holding an annual New Year’s Eve party.
The hotel holds a Masquerade Party on their open-air rooftop bar, ONYX, to see in the New Year and stars including Nicolas Cage, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Skrillex and Benji and Joel Madden visit throughout the year.
A favourite among the Kardashian family, Aspen is the perfect place for the celebs to ring in the new year if they don’t fancy sunshine and cocktails.
The Colorado town is a beautiful snowy ski resort complete with luxury stores that allow the celebrities some retail therapy when they’ve had enough of the slopes.
Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson and Mariah Carey have all favoured Aspen for their New Year celebrations, enjoying bonfires and fireworks.
Local restaurants include Cache Cache, which reportedly brings in more money on New Year’s Eve than any other night of the year, serving up luxury dishes including caviar and white truffle pasta.
Another one for the snow-fans among us, the exclusive Swiss ski resort of Gstaad is a favourite among the stars, with Madonna often spotted there with her children, including wild child Rocco Ritchie.
Fashion designer Valentino throws a famous New Year’s Eve bash in the area every year for his celebrity friends, previously telling Harper’s Bazaar: “My chalet in Gstaad is one of the oldest in the village – full of memories, flowers, cozy sofas.
“For a party, I just add some room for dancing and a good DJ. I don’t like themes, but I like people well dressed. I am a bit superstitious, and I like to see nice things around me and good manners.”
Dubai is a celebrity hotspot all year round but it gains even more popularity at New Year.
Kendall Jenner, Selena Gomez and Gigi Hadid have all previously attended Jumeirah hotel’s luxury NYE party, which includes an extravagant firework display from the resort’s private beach.
As if that wasn’t enough, lovebirds Mark Wright and Michelle Keegan first met after they both booked a New Year’s break in Dubai way back in 2012, with the pair tying the knot in May 2015.
The Beckhams always make a point of bringing in the New Year together and are often joined by Gordon Ramsay and his family, with the two clans being close friends.
Although they are always keen to spend Christmas in London, Victoria and David usually whisk their children off to Reethi Rah resort – a beautiful and exclusive hotel in the Maldives – soon after.
The resort occupies an entire island and is complete with 12 private beaches and on-hand therapists.
Nick Grimshaw, Alexa Chung and Daisy Lowe previously saw in the New Year in the Maldives, with Rochelle and Marvin Humes also visiting the tropical island with their daughter, Alaia-Mai, a couple of years back.
